About the Epicenter

Epicenter is a monumental stainless steel public sculpture at the main entrance of Weidner Field in downtown Colorado Springs, serving as an iconic landmark for Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Unveiled on April 23, 2021, the $4.5 million artwork features two interlocking 65-foot rings anchored by a 19-foot polished sphere, standing 35 feet tall and weighing over 164,000 pounds. Inspired by Colorado Springs’ identity as Olympic City USA and its ties to the space industry, the sculpture symbolizes global sports, motion, and the city’s revitalized future. Fabricated by local firm Springs Fabrication from more than 7,000 stainless steel components, Epicenter includes a textured “dragon-scale” finish, integrated LED lighting, and accessible ramps with a “switchbacks” pattern. Gifted to the community by Dean Weidner and Switchbacks ownership, it honors the site’s industrial past while creating a striking, modern gateway to downtown.
